Labor Day Weekend

Wow! What a whirlwind of a weekend.

We got up early, early on Saturday morning to see hot air balloons ascend at the local annual hot air balloon festival. There were 70 or so balloons, all colors of the rainbow. It was fun to see the teams spread them out, cool inflate them and finally add the hot air and watch them soar. I've never seen anything like it and look forward to the next time.

After the balloon launch, we headed to a favorite "greasy spoon" for breakfast. YUM-O!
Then, we drove over and looked at the mouth of Cheyenne Mountain...no pictures allowed. Sorry readers. We topped off the day with a trip to the State Fair and a monster truck show! The boys loved it...grew tired of it quickly and so...we left before the big "freestyle" finale. But, they got to milk a cow, pet some animals and had lots of traditional state fair kind of food. So, it was a success. And...that was just Saturday.

Sunday we got up early again and headed to the tip top of Pike's Peak, where we took in the views ,ate doughnuts and bought trinkets. After about 2hrs at 14,000+ feet we headed down and drove into Old Colorado City. We had a picnic lunch and walked the quaint streets...bought shin guards for the kids (soocer starts this week) and shared a chocolate covered apple, which none of us had ever had.

Monday afternoon we went to the yearly Labor Day party that our street puts on. There was grilled food, sweets and sides, volleyball, croquet, waterguns, a playground, a trampoline and a really fun water balloon toss. It's hosted in the same yards (that connect) every year. It was a blast.

After baths (I've never seen my kids more dirty from the trampoline)...we all fell into bed exhasuted last night. We can't do weekends like this all the time, but it's fun!!!
